A dropped or suspended ceiling is another option for your basement. These ceilings have a grid work of metal bars in the shape of an upside-down T, these are suspended on wires from the overhead joists. A dropped ceiling is great because there is no need for you to move wires, pipes or ducts and the joists don't have to be straight for the finished ceiling to look flat. This type of basement ceiling finishing will give you easy access to heating, cooling and electrical systems. Adding some lighting fixtures can be done with ease as well. In addition to that, a dropped ceiling shields unwanted noise from above. However, one of the biggest disadvantages of a dropped or suspended ceiling is that it eats up too much head space so if you already have a very low basement ceiling then you might want to look into this first.
You expect ceilings to be a dull part of the home. It's what you saw around you as you grew up. Nobody was adventurous with their ceiling color - good old white or maybe even a daring cream (yes that was sarcasm) is what you came to expect in terms of the heights of ceiling décor. Your ceiling doesn't need to be boring however; as a matter of fact it can be a talking point of the room if you really want it to be. How? Simply by adding some wonderful color!
The ceiling is one of the important aspects of your basement, we may find it ugly but don't worry because there are a lot of products available that can turn your ceiling into a work of art. The basement is naturally dark, cool and uninviting and people want the exact opposite which is warm and cozy. People can be very creative and achieving this is not a big deal anymore. There are several types of basement ceiling finishings and it's often confusing what works best for you. Basically, basement ceilings can be categorized to either be dry walled or suspended. Decorative touches will be a part of your finishing steps. Don't be afraid to experiment, be creative and think outside the box.
So put away that outdated beige, white or cream ceiling idea. Put away that stippled/popcorn type finish. Most people neglect their ceilings when they're redecorating their homes. Why hold yourself back? Imagine having a brightly colored ceiling that, no matter what the weather may be like, will be something you can look up, smile at and admire.
Well we are going to FRAME our way right around all of it, and it's really very simple to do! Looking at it now it might seem a little overwhelming, but what we will do is break the ceiling framing down into a few stages, starting with the framing of the duct-work 1st!
If you are looking for basement finishing ideas, one of the things you can do is look at homes for sale. Look for homes with a finished basement in the sale papers. Obviously, you aren't going to buy a home but you just want ideas. However, open houses are a great place to see a basement and what the seller has done with it. Open houses are free for people to come in and look around. This will require you to travel around to different homes but it is a great way to see some of the different decorating techniques people use. In most cases, you will find great ideas because sellers want to sell their home and they go out of their way for it to look nice.
Quote from ceiling tile painting ideas :
Then after shampooing, make a mild bleach solution with water and bleach. Spray a little bit of the remedy into the tiles also use a rag to wash them. You need to take out the grime and dirt out of the tiles so the paint will adhere better.
